Everyday after that wedding,
we’d scarf down our snacks after school and race up to our room to look through
bridal magazines that we bought with our allowances. We both had scrapbooks full
of wedding ideas, but Marissa’s was particularly extensive. She had everything
picked out; right down to the napkins she wasn’t placed on the tables at the
reception.
Marissa and Scott’s wedding
today was more beautiful than I ever could have imagined. Knowing that she has
finally gotten to live her dream wedding makes me eternally happy for her.
When middle school came, boys
soon came into the picture as well. I couldn’t be bothered with the other sex.
Marissa, however, loved boys. She was a hopeless romantic. She would watch
romantic movies and then act out the love scenes with our mothers’ mannequin
that she used for sewing. Marissa would wrap her arms around the neck of the
mannequin and pretend she was slow dancing with her dream man underneath a
star-lit sky. I think subconsciously she was on the lookout for a groom to
complete her wedding dreams and help them come true.
And here he is! When I first
met Scott, I knew he was perfect for my big sister. His love for poetry, the
night sky and chick flicks were obvious tip-offs that he is a hopeless romantic,
just like my sister.
Though the days of playing with
dolls and planning out weddings is over, I still hold these memories deep within
my heart. My sister is a grown woman now, and happier than I have seen her
before. Since meeting Scott, she has become more confident with herself. She has
learned to enjoy life and take risks. A certain radiant air hangs around her
now, and words cannot describe how happy I am for that.
Marissa, you look beautiful,
and words cannot describe how happy I am that you finally got to have your dream
wedding and dream groom. I can only hope to look half as beautiful as you do
today, and have a ceremony half as amazing.
I love you with all my heart
and wish you and Scott a lifetime of happy memories together. Treat each other
well, be open and honest, and most importantly, don’t lose your attraction to
the romance the night sky brings.
Congratulations!
