We spent the summer before UMASS terrified at the thought of leaving home. We
had never done our own laundry, bought our own food, or gotten out of bed in the
morning without our moms screaming! These were all new experiences, and I
couldn’t have been happier that we shared it together. After all, we were
surrounded with boys, alcohol, and an abundance of junk food. Twenty pounds
later and boyfriend less, we stuck together as a team and took on the world.
While college was a learning
experience, it also was the meeting ground for Jen and Michael. At the time I
was dating his roommate and I could not bear the thought of being the only one
with a boyfriend! I pushed Jen to come along with me one night, and the rest was
history. Ironically, my boyfriend and I split the next day, while Jen was only
beginning the rest of her life with Mike. Little did she know that she was going
to marry him!
Since I have known Jen for
almost my entire life, I know everything about her. I know what makes her tick,
what puts a smile on her face, and what she really needs in a relationship. Late
night talks always made me realize that she needed someone who was caring,
sweet, and an overall fun person to be around. When she met Mike, I instantly
knew that he could very well be the one for her. He always treated her like
gold, and made all of her friends and family feel so special.
Although I love Jen to death
and want the very best for her, I also want Michael to be happy. I have no doubt
in my mind that they will spend the rest of their lives together. When two
people generate such a warm feeling around them wherever they go, you know
automatically that something is right. I would never give Jen my approval unless
I knew that the boy was boyfriend material. In Mike’s case, I knew that he was
more than just a boyfriend.
I would like to make a toast to
my best friend. Through rough times and great memories, we will always be the
infamous duo. Regardless if Jen moves away and starts a family, I know that I
will still be such a large part of her life. We have been best friends forever,
and I don’t see that changing any time soon.
Jennifer, I love you as if you
were my sister. I could not have picked a better man for you. Michael, you have
found the best woman in the world. I know for a fact that is one of a kind and
beautiful inside and out. Take care of her, and make sure that she is happy.
I love you both!
