Father of the Bride Wedding Speech Guide

The father of the bride speech is one of the most formal, and arguably the most important speech given at the reception. This can be a little, or very, unnerving, so the best thing you can do is to be prepared. Having your speech written out and well practiced is the key to delivering a truly memorable speech at the wedding.

The father of the bride speech should be very personal and from the heart. The best thing you can do is to reach deep into your soul and write exactly what you are feeling about your daughter getting married. Being humorous might be okay, depending on your daughter’s personality.

However, most brides want their speech from their father to be serious, and deep from the heart. This is not to say you can’t make a light-hearted remark to lift the mood in the room, but the overall tone of the speech should not be humorous.

To begin, address the audience. Thank everyone for attending the wedding, and for supporting your daughter and new son in law on their memorable day. Once you’ve thanked the audience, you can begin to address your daughter.
When you begin to talk about your daughter, it truly needs to come from the heart. You can begin by commenting on how beautiful your daughter looks. You can go deeper into that comment, saying how you’ve never seen her look more beautiful than she does today.

Next, launch completely into your speech. Beginning with talking about when she was born, or a little girl will help give the audience a sense of how much you care for your “little girl.” This also helps give the audience a sense of how you’ve watched her grow and change over the years, which is what you should address next in your speech. Once you have talked about when she was younger, illustrate how she has grown and changed over the years, by over coming obstacles and how she has gained a sense of who she is as a person.

You can conclude this part of your speech by telling her how proud you are of her for growing into such a beautiful woman. Giving the audience and your daughter an overall sense of how “daddy’s little girl” has grown from playing with dolls into a mature, radiant young woman will truly hit hard with the audience and your daughter.

To conclude, you should talk about your daughter’s new relationship. Speak about how you felt when you first met the groom. You can also relate how you believe there is no one better for your daughter, and that you know she will be happy for the rest of her life. To end your speech, tell your daughter how deeply happy you are for her, and give her your blessing.

This father of the bride speech should come deep from your heart and soul. Each word should be well thought and prepared. In the end, the audience and your daughter should be left with a warm feeling that you truly love your daughter and are deeply happy for her.
